Finding the perfect door handles for your home

March 14th, 2012 by admin 0

Many elements come together to make a house a home nowadays. It’s usually the little things that complement each other and create a welcoming atmosphere within an abode that are important.

It’s essential to have a comfortable and warm home in the world of today, as who knows when you’ll have visitors that you want to impress or simply make at ease.

The smaller elements of a home really add the finishing touches; door handles are one such element. They can come in all shapes and sizes and can really add that extra polished feel to an already beautiful home.

There are various door handles available that can be personalised and customised for each of your rooms. This is a brilliant way to give each space in your home a distinct flavour of its own. It’s also an excellent way to showcase your own flare and style. Some of the different handles available are perfectly suited to individual rooms. If you’re looking to jazz up your kitchen and want to give it a luxurious and prestigious feel then take a look at the ‘stainless steel’ look.

Stainless steel gives off a positive and business-like image that makes your kitchen look attractive and classy. If you want to go for an upmarket feel then why not invest in pewter or porcelain handles?

These beautiful materials simply glow when used in door handles and present an alluring and elegant image. They’d look nice in a bathroom as well, giving off a pristine feel and a sense of cleanliness.

Another aspect of handles that is worth thinking about is the style and shape. Material is massively important and can help convey a whole spectrum of emotions and moods; the shape of a handle is just as effective at this though.

Perhaps long and thing bar-like handles would be good for a kitchen, echoing the style found in popular restaurants. A traditional door knob could make a living area feel homely and inviting, perhaps even more so than expensive furniture.

It’s obvious just how much can be accomplished by simply sprucing up the handles in your home. It’s more than worth your while to invest a little time into looking up what’s available.

It’ll hardly take any time at all and the benefits will be worth every second spent researching. You’ll be so happy that you took the time to find out what’s available when you’re relaxing in your glamorous home and taking pride in your handles.

What to consider when buying wood flooring?

March 5th, 2012 by admin 1

wood flooring

Wood flooring is heavily featured in many homes and across many business properties. If you are considering fitting wood during a home renovation or home improvement project you will need to consider the following.

There are two types of wood flooring, solid and engineered. Both are not the biggest fans of water and wet conditions, even if engineered wood flooring can withstand some degree of damp conditions. If the floor is likely to experience water on a large scale or left exposed to the elements, wood flooring may not be the most sensible choice. Furthermore, water that has been allowed to accumulate on wood can lead to a slippery surface, a major concern for slip and fall type accidents.

Have you considered the cost of fitting?
First time wood flooring buyers often neglect to budget the cost of fitting. Depending on the type of floor and your preferred choice of installation, it could cost an additional 30% to 40% on top of the cost of the floor. There are three methods of installing wood floors, which are floating, nail-down and glue-down.  Floating is the cheapest of the three and is regarded as the only method to suit do-it-yourself type projects. However, it is only suitable in the case of engineered wood floors. Solid wood flooring is only suitable for glue-down or nail-down installation due to the weight of the floorboards. As they are made from real wood, they tend to weigh to an extent that requires the floor to be fixed down solidly.

Are you aware of your ethical responsibilities?
As a buyer, you must insist that the wood, which you are buying, is sourced from sustainable resources. These are managed forests where wood is replenished to counter any trees that have been harvested. Before committing to the purchase ask the seller for their sustainability credentials. Often ethically sourced species will be oak flooring and walnut flooring. More exotic wood species are some times found on the endangered list so your decision to pick Oak or Walnut (including their sib-species) is ethically responsible.

Have you measured correctly?
Ordering the right amount of wood is the key to keep costs down and to avoid disappointment. The trick is to measure the right amount of M2 and to allow up to 8% on top for waste. A room should be measured for M2 based on the length X the width. Each room should be measured individually and the total X by 8% to allow for waste.  It is also useful to ask for a helping hand at this stage to ensure that the reading is accurate.

The Spring Colours Of 2012

February 24th, 2012 by admin 0

Spring is just around the corner so it’s time to throw out all your winter design ideas, and start creating some awe-inspiring spring ones. To do this, you need to know what’s trending. I’ve been searching the web, and have found some of 2012’s spring colours along with how they can be used in interior design.

The number one colour this spring will be yellow. I doubt this comes as much of a surprise to many of you, as yellow is associated with spring, but it isn’t a pastel yellow or dark yellow this year, but a nice bright daffodil yellow.

Yellow is closely followed by fuchsia. There will be some colour combos that are trending discussed later on, but yellow and fuchsia isn’t one of them. You will have to decide between them. They are, however, both being used in a similar manner, which is combined with a white surrounding. Both colours jump out at the spectator when used in accessories such as cushions, rugs, curtains, lamp shades, vases, and even bedding.

Carrying on this bold and bright colour trend is tango orange, 2012’s most trending colour. It is being used in a completely different way. The accessories remain the same, spring decor but the colour combination is different. Tango orange is most commonly being combined with teal, as these shades contrast each other and thereby complement each other. Teal is being used as the supporting colour, so expect to see teal coloured walls with leather tango orange chairs as the main feature.

A bit of a surprise this spring is the use of pale brown tones. They are very popular in stripes and as a supporting colour for green shades. Despite the fact that they would fit well with olive, olive is completely out this spring, and in its place is a rather unusual though very daring lime green. This shade of green is being combined with brown and yellow, but never all three in the same setting, at least not this year. As mentioned above fuchsia is also part of some of the colour combinations, but when it is not the sole colour combined simply with white, different shades of lilac are used to support this colour.

Often bright and bold colours are an interior design style in their own right, but this spring the colours are seeping into other styles, so expect to see some bright yellow features sneak into the minimalistic style of interior design. Vintage will play a very big role this spring, especially when it comes to using the lilac shades. I wouldn’t be surprised to see branded wooden crates painted lilac, but with only a thin layer of paint so that the pattern of the wood, and, of course, the brand is still visible.

With these colours your interior design creations will not only be very daring but also rather risky, as the wrong colour combination or even too much colour could destroy your whole vision. But don’t be afraid of some trial and error with these colours, and remember the trend of vintage. You needn’t create a room revolving around this style, but some vintage accessories could add the ‘wow’ factor to your design.

woodwork in roof

If the wood is back in force in the house after being left aside in favor of more materials design, the ideas still abound. To help bring the wood in your home for a warm & elegant impression, here are some mistakes to avoid.

Wood does not necessarily give a rustic.
If before the wooden furniture was solid oak in a very dark color giving a rustic appearance to the kitchen or dining room, now there are other alternatives! There are many wood species to match each style. For example, to create a trendy scandinavian atmosphere, You can build on a very light wood and a very natural style, You will focus instead on the bamboo.

Wood is not only intended to exotic atmospheres
wood decoration.
If you also believe that wood is only suitable for exotic atmospheres, it is a mistake. Moreover, if the exotic wood such as wenge is still used nowadays prefers species much clearer. But know that the wenge and ipe also work very well in a contemporary interior design or, if they combine sleek furniture. Indeed, the exotic atmosphere comes not only gasoline but also the type of furniture you choose.

Avoid the total wood look
While the wood immediately warms the atmosphere of a house, do not mean to abuse it. Avoid then the total look floors, walls and wooden furniture unless you want to bring a warm cottage or log cabin to your home. Some furniture and a nice floor are enough to make the room nice and warm without loading it. Note that more wood will be darker and it will be present in your home.

Do not mix wood species
To create harmony within your home, you should choose wood species in line with each other. Then make sure to give some unity and do not choose the colors are too different for each piece of furniture or the floor. We will not mix eg solid oak furniture to other exotic wood with a light wood floor.

The wood is not only in furniture
Finally, know that to bring the wood in your home, there is not that the floor and furniture. You can also use decorative objects made of wood that are very trendy right now. The wooden cutting boards are displayed, the clocks are dressed as wood and wooden fruit baskets reminiscent of nature for a cozy interior that goes back to basics.

Interior Design for the Office

office design

In order to achieve the best design in the office, a number of things have to be taken into account. The final result needs to be something everyone will be pleased with, but it should also enhance and hopefully promote productivity. I feel that is achievable to have both these requirements. The secret is mainly in selecting the choosing the right furniture and the right layout, and using high-quality accent pieces. the following steps should help towards achieving office design to be proud of.

The Importance of Natural Light.
A room that is full of natural light makes for better conditions to be productive in. However, you will need to be able to change the natural light in some situations. This is for when the sun causes too much glare on a computer screen during some parts of the day. Where possible the work desks should be near a window, roman blinds are a great way to control how the light shines through into the office space. There is a vast range roman blinds out there, so this is a fantastic opportunity to improve the overall appearance of the office with a few simple changes.

Keep Space in Mind.
It can be tempting to try and fit as many items as possible within the office, it’s almost always better however to leave as much space open as you can. Rooms that are cramped tend to affect the stress levels for the worse. As well as this, clutter doesn’t lend itself well to top-notch interior design. Come up with a list of the bare essentials that need to be included in your office, and avoid adding anything extra at all costs. With ample amounts of extra space, your office will look and feel much more inviting.

Organization is Key.
It’s important to have an organised and tidy office so it is easy to find important documents when needed. As I’ve already mentioned, it’s very important to keep the space as clutter-free as you can. By using in high-quality hangers hutches, shelves, hooks and other pieces, will contribute to making your office exceptionally neat and organized. Choose a desk that has enough shelves and drawers, and use hangers and hooks to keep jackets and coats out of the way.

High-Quality Furniture is a Must.
Although buying cheap furniture in bulk may sound like a great idea now, you will not feel the benefit in the long run when you have to buy more within the year. A poorly designed office chair can cause serious problems too, so it’s best to spend that little bit more on items which are going to last the test of time.

Paintings and Other Accent Pieces Add Flair.
Finally, you should try to let your personality shine though within the office interior decor by choosing nice paintings, framed photos, mirrors and other accent pieces. You should also consider wall clocks, area rugs, table lamps, and other pieces which add to the feeling of a room. This will make the whole area feel a lot more welcoming and a comfortable environment to work in.
