Spring is just around the corner so it’s time to throw out all your winter design ideas, and start creating some awe-inspiring spring ones. To do this, you need to know what’s trending. I’ve been searching the web, and have found some of 2012’s spring colours along with how they can be used in interior design.
The number one colour this spring will be yellow. I doubt this comes as much of a surprise to many of you, as yellow is associated with spring, but it isn’t a pastel yellow or dark yellow this year, but a nice bright daffodil yellow.
Yellow is closely followed by fuchsia. There will be some colour combos that are trending discussed later on, but yellow and fuchsia isn’t one of them. You will have to decide between them. They are, however, both being used in a similar manner, which is combined with a white surrounding. Both colours jump out at the spectator when used in accessories such as cushions, rugs, curtains, lamp shades, vases, and even bedding.
Carrying on this bold and bright colour trend is tango orange, 2012’s most trending colour. It is being used in a completely different way. The accessories remain the same,
but the colour combination is different. Tango orange is most commonly being combined with teal, as these shades contrast each other and thereby complement each other. Teal is being used as the supporting colour, so expect to see teal coloured walls with leather tango orange chairs as the main feature.
A bit of a surprise this spring is the use of pale brown tones. They are very popular in stripes and as a supporting colour for green shades. Despite the fact that they would fit well with olive, olive is completely out this spring, and in its place is a rather unusual though very daring lime green. This shade of green is being combined with brown and yellow, but never all three in the same setting, at least not this year. As mentioned above fuchsia is also part of some of the colour combinations, but when it is not the sole colour combined simply with white, different shades of lilac are used to support this colour.
Often bright and bold colours are an interior design style in their own right, but this spring the colours are seeping into other styles, so expect to see some bright yellow features sneak into the minimalistic style of interior design. Vintage will play a very big role this spring, especially when it comes to using the lilac shades. I wouldn’t be surprised to see branded wooden crates painted lilac, but with only a thin layer of paint so that the pattern of the wood, and, of course, the brand is still visible.
With these colours your interior design creations will not only be very daring but also rather risky, as the wrong colour combination or even too much colour could destroy your whole vision. But don’t be afraid of some trial and error with these colours, and remember the trend of vintage. You needn’t create a room revolving around this style, but some vintage accessories could add the ‘wow’ factor to your design.
